The largest gathering of samurais was 1,061 and was organised by Shingenko Matsuri Jikko Iinkai (Japan) in Kofu, Yamanashi, Japan on 7 April 2012.
The attempt was organised by Shingenko Matsuri Jikko Iinkai, or the Executive Planning Committee of Shingenko Festival, as a part of the 41st Shingenko Matsuri. This festival started in 1970, usually happening once a year. The samurais (participants) came mainly from within the prefecture, but some applied from all over Japan. During the attempt, 30 people were disqualified for either leaving the venue before the finish signal was heard or not wearing the proper samurai outfits.
