In June 2017, the Canadian Special Operations Command confirmed that an unidentified member of Canada's Joint Task Force 2 hit a target from 3,540 m/3.54 km (11,614 ft 1.8 in or 2.2 miles). The Canadian Special Operations Command did not provide precise details on the incident, but, according to media sources, the shot was fired during an operation in Iraq. Reportedly, the sniper was using a US-made McMillan Tac-50 rifle and shooting from an elevated position.

Media sources cited anonymous military sources saying that the shot was independently verified by video and other data, relying in part on information from a second location.
