Released on 22 April 1993, NCSA Mosaic was the world's first internet browser. It was created by researchers at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA and was designed to allow people to easily retrieve data from computer networks.

It was built to work with the World Wide Web's hypertext protocol - developed by Tim Berners Lee of CERN, Geneva, Switzerland.
