Børge Ousland (Norway) skied his way to the North Pole from Cape Arkticheskiy on the Russian archipelago of Severnaya Zemlya in the Russian Federation without any external assistance in 52 days from 2 March to 23 April 1994. He was also the first person to make a solo and unsupported journey to the North Pole from land. He did not use any form of motorised transport or parafoil kites.
