Snowboard Cross was included in the Winter Olympics programme for the first time in 2006, and the first women’s gold medal was won by Tanja Freiden (Switzerland) at Bardonecchia, Italy. Maelle Ricker (Canada) won the gold medal in the 2010 event in Vancouver and most recently Eva Samkova (Czech Republic) took gold in Sochi, Russia in 2014. No athlete has won this competition twice.
