The slowest time ever recorded for rowing the Atlantic West to East solo is 123 days 22 hr 8 min and was achieved by Oliver Hicks (UK) who left Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, USA on 27 May 2005 in his boat, Miss Olive, Virgin Atlantic and arrived in St Mary's, Isles of Scilly, UK on 28 September 2005. Hicks started this crossing at the age of 23 years, 175 days, making him the the youngest (as well as the first) person to row the Atlantic solo and unsupported. He is also the youngest solo oceanrower.

Mr Hicks came accross the HMS Cumberland  500 miles (805 km) north west of the Azores where the ship provided him with provisions to continue his journey. This was allowed as it was not a scheduled encounter.
