The oldest handball player is Josefine Meerkamp (Germany, b. 5 July 1944), who is 75 years 302 days old, as verified in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, on 2 May 2020.

Handball has always been one of Josefine's favorite sports. She has always been interested in the sport, but initially there was no team for her. 'While walking through the city, I noticed a poster where a club was looking for young female handball players. Since I was looking for a team sport at that time and handball has always been interesting, I contacted the phone number given there.' On the same evening, May 15, 1961, Josefine was invited to the training. Since she didn't have any sports gear or indoor shoes, her future teammates organized everything so that she was able to experience her first handball training session that day. 'A Guinness World Records title in what would be my 60th (!!!) handball season and thus clearly the highlight of my long handball career. I would be infinitely proud and grateful, thankful that I have been able to share my hobby with so many dear players and coaches for such a long time.'
