The largest plesiosaur ever to swim in the oceans was Liopleurodon , with a length of up to 25m (82 ft). Liopleurodon was a carnivore, with a short neck, a head 3m (10ft) long, and four powerful flippers. These relatives of the dinosaurs lived in the late Jurassic period, between 165 and 150 million years ago.
