The largest koala litter is a pair of identical twins called Euca and Lyptus who were born 10–11 Apr 1999 in Queensland, Australia. They were confirmed as the first known koala twins and the first to be identified as such using DNA fingerprinting by Leigh Slater of the Koala Study Program, University of Queensland, Australia, on 25 Nov 1999.
Koala twins are especially rare because the size of the mother's pouch means she cannot normally care for both offspring and so only one would usually survive.
Originally named Milo and Otis, the twins were renamed in a competition held by The Times of London and the university.
