India’s left-handed opener Ishan Kishan (b. 18 July 1998) was 24 years 145 days old when he scored an entertaining 210 against hosts Bangladesh in Chattogram (Chittagong) on 10 December 2022. It was also the fastest double hundred in a One-Day International (ODI), coming off 126 balls, with 23 fours and nine sixes thrown into the mix. On 18 January 2023, however, Kishan conceded his ‘youngest’ record to teammate Shubman Gill (b. 8 September 1999), who was 23 years 132 days old when he made 208 against New Zealand on home soil at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Gill’s 200 came off 145 balls – 19 balls more than Kishan had faced for his own double-hundred. New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr (b. 13 October 2000) was 17 years 243 days old on 13 June 2018, the day she blasted her way to 232 not out off 145 balls in an ODI against Ireland in Dublin. Kerr remains the youngest player to score a double hundred in international cricket.

To put the efforts of Gill and Kishan into context, Sachin Tendulkar’s 200 not out against South Africa on 24 February 2010 – the format’s first-ever double hundred – was made off 147 balls when he was 36 years 306 days old.
