Youngest solo New Artist of the Year winner at the Billboard Latin Music Awards

Regional Mexican musician Ivan Cornejo (USA, b. 1 November 2004) was 17 years 332 days old when he won New Artist of the Year at the 29th Billboard Latin Music Awards in Coral Gables, Florida, on 29 September 2022. The vocalist/guitarist’s debut album, Alma Vacía (2021), was named Regional Mexican Album of the Year at the ceremony, and he was also nominated for Regional Mexican Solo Artist of the Year.
Two other teenagers have won New Artist of the Year since it was first presented in 2010: Luis Coronel (USA, b. 3 February 1996) was 18 years 80 days old on 24 April 2014, while Christian Nodal (Mexico, b. 11 January 1999) was 19 years 105 days old on 26 April 2018. Erick Brian Colón Arista (Cuba, b. 3 January 2001), a member of the Florida-based boy band CNCO, was the youngest-ever New Artist of the Year recipient, winning the award alongside his bandmates on 27 April 2017 at the age of 16 years 114 days.
Cornejo debuted at No.1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart on 18 June 2022 with his second album Dañado. After two weeks at No.2, Dañado returned to No.1 on 9 July 2022 and has been there ever since (16 weeks at No.1, as of 15 October 2022).
