The tallest flagpole is at Panmunjom, North Korea, near the border with South Korea. It is 160 m (525 ft) high and flies a flag 30 m (98.5 ft) long. The flagpole is the result of a propaganda war between the two Koreas, and is said to have been erected in reply to a tall flagpole erected in a nearby South Korean village. Bizarrely, the prosperous-looking town in which the tallest flagpole stands, mockingly called 'Propaganda Village' in the South, is believed to be largely for show and its buildings uninhabited.
