Highest average altitude completion of a sprint triathlon distance

The highest average altitude completion of a sprint triathlon distance is 4,423 meters (14,511 ft 1.85 in) and was achieved by Mauricio Salazar (Colombia), with the support of SmartFit, at the Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados, in Caldas, Colombia, on 3 November 2021.

The record was attempted outdoors at the Los Nevados National Natural Park in the area located in the Department of Caldas, Colombia.

The sprint distance triathlon consisted of the following stages: 750 m (0.47 mi) swim, 20 km (12 mi) cycling, and 5 km (3.1 mi) run, and it took seven hours to be completed. The whole attempt was carried out in natural landscapes with temperatures below 6° C (42.8° F).

The average altitude was measured by taking the average of the highest and lowest point of the specified course.The lowest altitude was recorded at the swimming stage (3,892 metres) and the highest one (4,954 metres) was recorded at the running stage.

To organise the logistics of this record, a support team of 50 people, alongside two independent sports specialists witnesses and a mountain surveyor attended the event on the day.
