The highest price paid for a piece of wireless receiver equipment is £15,997 ($24,638) for a Marconi Multiple Tuner (1907–12) at Phillips Bayswater, UK on 11 May 1993.
Marconi obtained a patent for the radio in 1907. The set is a major milestone in radio development and introduced several new technologies, including tuned circuits, variable inductance (variocouplers), variable condensers. The Multiple Tuner consists of a set of three RC circuits each made up of a variable condenser and a variocoupler. By selecting the appropriate combination of taps on the aerial tuning inductance, variable condensers and the variocouplers, the operator could tune over a range of 80 to 2,600 m.
