With more than 26.1 billion streams worldwide, Taylor Swift (USA) was Spotify’s most streamed act of 2023. The global icon kept herself firmly in the spotlight during the year with the release of two re-recorded albums, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version), the continuing success of her 12th studio effort Midnights (released in October 2022), and the phenomenal reaction to her career-spanning Eras Tour, which, from 66 shows alone across the US, Mexico and South America between March and November 2023, sold 4.1 million tickets and generated $906.1 million (£718.5 million) at the box office, making it the second-highest-grossing music tour of all time – even without the 85 concerts scheduled for 2024.
In 2023, Swift broke the stranglehold of Bad Bunny, who had been Spotify’s most streamed act of 2022 (18.5 billion), 2021 (9.1 billion) and 2020 (8.3 billion). The Puerto Rican “King of Latin Trap” had to settle for the runner-up spot for the current year, ahead of The Weeknd, Drake, Peso Pluma, Feid, Travis Scott, SZA, KAROL G and Lana Del Rey.
Swift’s most popular tracks of 2023 included “I Can See You (Taylor’s Version)” (183.5 million streams as of 8 December 2023) and “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version)” (164.1 million), while older tracks such as “Anti-Hero” (1.27 billion) and “Cruel Summer” (1.44 billion) continued to feature in many users’ playlists.
