On 1 August 2020, BTS (South Korea) spent their 189th week at the top of Billboard’s Social 50 chart.

On 8 February 2020, BTS’ 164th week at the top of the Social 50 broke a tie with Justin Bieber as the act with the most weeks at No.1. Bieber last topped the tally – his 163rd frame at No.1 – on 22 July 2017.

The K-pop stars have topped the rankings since 29 July 2017, and as of 1 August 2020 they had spent all but nine of their 198 weeks on the chart (since October 2016) at No.1.

On 1 August 2020, BTS fended off competition from One Direction (No.2) and the group’s individual members (Louis Tomlinson at No.3, Niall Horan at No.4, Harry Styles at No.5 and Liam Payne at No.6) amid rumours on social media that the all-conquering quartet were planning to get back together.

Other acts with multiple weeks at No.1 include Taylor Swift (28), Miley Cyrus (21) and Rihanna (21).

The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular acts on “the world’s leading social networking sites”: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Wikipedia and YouTube. “Artists’ popularity is determined by a formula blending their weekly additions of friends/fans/followers, along with artist page views and weekly song plays.”
