UK singer-songwriter Mabel (b. Mabel McVey, Spain) performed the world’s first gig on a vertical stage at the launch event for the venue Samsung KX in King’s Cross, London, UK, on 3 September 2019. Mabel and her backing dancers occupied the middle section of the 9.1-m-high (29-ft 10-in), three-storey stage while the top and bottom decks housed her band, backing singers and a DJ.
The stage was devised by Samsung Electronics (South Korea) to allow the “vast majority” of smartphone users who “engage with their devices vertically” to capture and share the event instantly on social media.
Mabel’s nine-track concert started with “Fine Line” and included her UK Top 10 singles “Mad Love”, “Don’t Call Me Up” and “Finders Keepers”. The free event was watched by 2,000 people.
Designed to give guests the “ultimate immersive brand experience”, Samsung KX – a 22,000-sq-ft (2,044-m2) destination located at Coal Drops Yard – is described as “a place to see things, learn stuff, push your limits and open your mind”.
