The highest altitude road marathon is 4,693 m and was organised by Winter Sports Federation Pakistan, Pakistan Air Force, Serena Hotels and Z Adventures (all Pakistan) in Khunjerab Pass, Pakistan, on 21 September 2019.
This event was organised as a way to promote Pakistan as the next big sports tourism destination. The marathon attracted athletes from all over the world and will continue as an annual event. The inaugural event saw Heidi Johansen of Denmark win the female marathon with a time of 3 hours, 44 minutes and 48 seconds and Umair Haider of Pakistan win the male marathon with a time of 3 hours, 10 minutes and 31 seconds.
