Since its inception in 2002, the dedicated fighting tournament Evolution Championship Series (EVO) has grown in both stature and size each year. Featuring an open entry system, the EVO 2016 event, which was staged in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, on 15–17 July 2016, attracted 10,024 individual competitors to compete in nine different fighting games – that's nearly 3,000 more entrants than the 2015 contest. Titles included Tekken 7: Fated Retribution (an updated arcade version of Tekken 7), Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Pokken Tournament. The Street Fighter V tournament enjoyed the most competitors, with 5,107 battling to reign in supreme in Capcom’s revered fighter – both the largest single eSports fighting game tournament and the largest Street Fighter tournament, as of 26 September 2016.
