Lowest-grossing set of nominees for Best Picture Oscar

The eight movies nominated for the "Best Picture" category in the 2014 (87th) Academy Awards have grossed a combined total of $562.48 million (£371.24 million) worldwide – by far the lowest total since the category’s rules were changed to allow more than five films to be nominated in 2009. Gravity, a best picture nominee for 2013, grossed more than all eight films nominated in 2015 put together, whilst Avatar, nominated for 2009, earned over five times the 2015 total.
