According to the Skyscraper Centre, by the end of 2017 Dubai in the United Arab Emirates had no less than 21 buildings which were 300 m or taller – more than twice as many as any other city in the world – with an additional 13 under construction. This collection of mega towers includes: Burj Khalifa (828 m; 2,717 ft), Princess Tower (413.4 m; 1,356 ft), 23 Marina (392.8 m; 1,289 ft), Elite Residence (380.5 m; 1,248 ft), Address Boulevard (368 m; 1,207 ft), Almas Tower (360 m; 1,181 ft), JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Tower 1 (355.4 m; 1,166 ft), JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Tower 2 (355.4 m; 1,166 ft), Emirates Tower One (354.6 m; 1,163 ft), The Torch (336.8 m; 1,105 ft), Rose Rayhaan by Rotana (333 m; 1,093 ft), Al Yaqoub Tower (328 m; 1,076 ft), The Index (326 m; 1,070 ft), Burj Al Arab (321 m; 1,053 ft), HHHR Tower (317.6 m; 1,042 ft), Ocean Heights (310 m; 1,017 ft), Emirates Tower Two (309 m; 1,014 ft), Cayan Tower (306.4 m; 1,005 ft) and The Address (302.2 m; 991 ft).


The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), a not-for-profit group based at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, USA, is recognized as the arbiter for bestowing designations such as the “World’s Tallest Building”, having developed the international standards for measuring and defining tall buildings.
