Written in 1981 and released in 1983, Dungeons & Dragons: Treasure of Tarmin for the Intellivision was the first role-playing game to appear on a dedicated gaming console. Although there had been other arcade-style Dungeons & Dragons videogames before it, Treasures of Tarmin presented its world as a solid 3D maze and was the first to use recognizable role-playing features such as variable player statistics.
