Valve founder Gabe Newell (USA) states that his 300-person company is – on a per-employee basis – more profitable than Google and Apple. The company doesn’t disclose figures, but based on Google’s $216,600 (£138,991) profits per employee in the first nine months of 2011, Valve must have seen total profits of at least $65 million (£41 million). In March 2012, Newell was himself estimated to have a net worth of $1.5 billion (£970 million), ranking him 854th out of 1,226 global billionaires. Conservative estimates put Valve’s enterprise value at more than $3 billion (£1.9 billion) and Newell himself owns more than half of the company.
