The tallest standing moai measures 9.80 m (32.63 ft) in height. It is located at Ahu Te Pito Kura, Easter Island (Rapa Nui), and has been named "Paro". It weighs 74.39 metric tonnes (82 US tons). A larger moai measuring 21.60 m (71.93 ft) in height, now known as "El Gigante", was discovered in the island's Rano Raraku quarry, but was not in standing position. This weighs 160–182 metric tons (145–165 US tons).
Moai are monolithic human figures carved from rock on Easter Island between 1250 and 1500. A total of 887 of the statues have been discovered. Of these, 288 were successfully transported to their ceremonial display platforms, while 397 remain in the island's Rano Raraku quarry. The remaining 92 still lie "in transit" outside of the quarry.
The smallest standing moai, located at Poike on Easter Island, measures 1.13 m (3.76 ft) in height.
