What is Rumeysa: Walking Tall about?

Rumeysa: Walking Tall is Guinness World Records and GWR Studios’ first feature-length documentary and the inspirational story of the world’s tallest woman Rumeysa Gelgi.

The documentary sees her travel from her native Türkiye to the United States – flying for the first time – to spread her message of kindness and acceptance of those with visible differences.

Rumeysa has faced horrific bullying and health issues throughout her life, and battled the isolation that came along with both.

Who is Rumeysa Gelgi and is she the tallest woman in the world?

Rumeysa was named the world’s tallest woman living in 2021, when she measured 215.16 cm (7 ft 0.7 in).

She was previously the tallest teenager (female).

Rumeysa is 26 years old and is from Türkiye.

She works in the computer industry as a researcher and front-end developer but also acts as an advocate for people with visible differences.

Why is Rumeysa Gelgi so tall?

Rumeysa’s record-breaking height is caused by a very rare condition called Weaver syndrome, which causes bone overgrowth.

Experts have identified only around 50 people in the world who have the condition.

Weaver syndrome affects every person differently but can cause changes to the shape and appearance of the face and the size of the head.

It can also affect other muscles and parts of the body.

Rumeysa has had several operations because of her condition, as well as medical intervention to prevent her from growing any more.
