The most plant species planted in eight hours in multiple locations is 237 and was achieved by Ministerio de Ambiente (Ecuador) at multiple venues across Ecuador, on 16 May 2015.
This initiative was sponsored by the Ministry of Environment which invited all the Ecuadorian citizens to participate and to afforest different ecosystems throughout the country with plants provided by the Ministry. Some other government entities also participated in this event that took place on May 2015.
During the record attempt, the Ecuadorian government counted with the participation of 57,512 people, which reforested an area of 2,269 hectares and planted 765,073 plants.
Ecuador aims in 2017 to reach a target of zero deforestation, a mark never reached in the country. In this way the achievement of a Guinness World Record title has helped on the realization of this goal.
